The transition from high school Ultimate into both college Ultimate and adult club Ultimate can be one of the biggest leaps in a player’s development.
For many athletes, their first exposure to advanced systems, elite coaching, and the speed and physicality of high-level competition doesn’t happen until they arrive on a college team or earn a spot on an adult club roster.
At the Ultimate Way Foundation, we believe that transition shouldn’t begin after high school.
It should begin while students are still in high school.
A Head Start That Most Players Never Receive
PARLAY was created to give motivated high school athletes an opportunity that has rarely existed in Charlotte.
High school players are invited to attend as many PARLAY club practices as their schedules allow—completely free of charge.
They train alongside experienced adult club players while receiving the same coaching, instruction, and feedback as the rest of the program.
Instead of waiting until graduation to discover what elite club Ultimate looks like, they begin learning years earlier.
Learning From Experienced Players
Every practice introduces athletes to concepts that many players don’t encounter until college or adult club Ultimate.
They experience:
- Advanced offensive and defensive systems
- High-level throwing instruction
- Competitive practice environments
- Athletic development
- Film study and game analysis
- Team communication
- Leadership expectations
- Structured player development
The classroom is the field, and every practice becomes another opportunity to learn from experienced adult players and coaches.
Real Competition Builds Confidence
Practice is only one part of the experience.
Toward the end of each club season, PARLAY welcomes qualified high school players to compete alongside the team at eligible club tournaments—most notably USA Ultimate Club Sectionals, as well as other appropriate events.
These tournaments allow young athletes to experience the pace, physicality, decision-making, and intensity of adult club competition long before they begin college.
Rather than watching from the sidelines, they learn by competing alongside experienced teammates against strong competition. That experience often accelerates their confidence and development in ways that practice alone cannot.
Removing Financial Barriers
Opportunity should never depend on a family’s financial situation.
High school athletes may attend PARLAY practices completely free of charge.
Players who wish to compete in tournaments may also request 100% financial assistance. When needed, the Ultimate Way Foundation works to cover tournament dues, jerseys, travel, lodging, and other participation costs so finances never become the reason a motivated athlete misses an opportunity.
